Second PM Rotational Training Program Kicks Off

Harris, a leading mechanical contractor, is proud to announce their second Project Management Rotational Training program begins in June. Harris’ purpose & vision for this rotational training program is to accelerate the training process for project managers, helping PMs develop to the Sr. Project Manager level of their career in an accelerated timeline. Harris will utilize this rotational training program as a talent pipeline to place quality PM talent throughout all locations. Through this interactive, rotational program trainees will explore the critical areas of project management that seasoned project managers tackle daily. By learning from different business units within the Harris organization, this program will provide trainees an opportunity to work in multiple Harris locations while getting crucial on-the-job experience.

The second rotational training program ‘class’ begins at Harris in June 2023 with further classes planned to begin in January and June 2024.

Harris’ Project Management Rotational Training program includes the following elements, planned with detailed curriculum over a two year timeframe:

  • At the end of each rotation, each trainee will conduct a 10-15 minute presentation to explain what they did, completed and learned during that rotation including insights and feedback on the rotation itself.
  • Rotations and timing include:
  • Orientation & Onboarding – 1 week
  • Field Management – 3 months
  • Project financials – 1 week initial/basic rotation
  • Estimating – 3 months
  • Design & Engineering – 1 month
  • BIM/VDC – 2 months
  • Manufacturing – 2 months
  • Business Office (St. Paul) – 1 month
    • Human Capital, Marketing + Communications, Corporate Services, Purchasing, Accounting + Finance, Payroll
  • Service – 1 month
  • Building Automation – 1 month
  • Project Management – 9 months
  • Capstone Project – 1 week
    • After all rotations have been completed, each trainee will have a capstone project and presentation building a project schedule & plan including preconstruction and complete job set-up with process, price & schedule impacts for change orders received.
