The Real Harris: Meet Gil Granados

Tell us about your background. How did you get your start in the construction/service/BAS business?

It started when I worked as an IT Systems BIM Modeler in the San Luis Potosi BMW Plant, where I knew the benefits that BIM can apport to any project. I have a degree in Architecture from the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana, and I have attended a diploma course in “Tecnologia de los edificios inteligentes y sustentables” from the IMEI/BOMA.

What drew you to Harris? What makes you stay?

The international collaborative environment and the opportunity to afront new challenges drew me to Harris. I stay because of the trust they give me to carry some responsibilities and the support they offer me to achieve.

What do you enjoy about working at Harris?

I really enjoy the dynamic and collaborative work environment that Harris provides. Additionally, working on the most recent office in Mexico has been a great opportunity to expand my horizons and learn about a new culture.

What is the best part about your position?

I think the best part is the problem-solving aspect of it. BIM projects often present unique and complex challenges, and I really enjoy researching to find innovative solutions.

What traits do you think are important for someone in your role to be successful?

There are several traits that I believe are important as: attention to detail, problem-solving skills, technical expertise, adaptability and communication skills. I think that all together and having a delivery-focused mindset will help to be successful in this role.

What are your main responsibilities and initiatives that you lead?

My main responsibilities include support on developing, maintaining and management of the NIH Project models to ensure high-quality data and deliveries.

What are you passionate about at work?

I am passionate about finding ways to automate workflows for the development, review and data management of BIM models, as well as the generation of delivery documents, using (and continuing to learn) programming tools such as Dynamo and/or Python.

How do you like to re-charge?

I like to go out to a park with my wife to play soccer (kicking a ball always de-stresses me) or just to walk. When the weather does not allow it, I like to read novels, essays, cosmic horror or science fiction.

What keeps you up at night?

Commonly, I think about possible solutions to unfinished problems, and particularly these days what keeps me up is the tasks of some programming classes that I am taking online.

What are you most proud of at Harris?

I am proud to be part of a great company and the recently created Mexico office and how we have quickly adapted to this new working environment.

What is one thing Harris employees wouldn’t know about you?

I was the eighth of nine siblings.

What drew you to this industry?

The fact that we are in the era of digital transformation for this industry, then I believe that here I have the possibility to meet, learn and apply some new developments such as digital twins, virtual and mixed reality, the metaverse, artificial intelligence and modeling process automation.

What do you wish the public knew about Harris?

The Harris commitment to innovation and excellence, which is reflected in the cutting-edge technology and methodologies we use to tackle our projects.

What inspires you? What motivates you?

It inspires me to have the opportunity to work in something that I am passionate about and I am motivated by the fact that I can develop new skills.
