The Real Harris: Meet Jacob Mecham

Tell us about your background. How did you get your start in construction/service/BAS? What drew you to the industry?

I started in construction at an early age working for my Dad’s construction company. I then moved to an electrician position after I got married.

What drew you to Harris? What makes you stay?

I knew a few people that worked for Harris, they convinced me about the change. I like the Harris culture and the people I work with.

What do you enjoy about working at Harris?

I would have to say the Harris reputation and the great people that work here.

What is the best part about your position?

I like to see the team grow and achieve success in their projects.

What are some of the main responsibilities and initiatives that you lead?

I lead the Blackfoot, ID team, it’s fun to see this small team grow and flourish.

Focus is important. How do you handle external factors that affect the business? How do you prevent yourself from over or under reacting? 

I take each challenge head on. When something challenging comes up, I take the time to think it through.

Looking ahead, what are some of the biggest opportunities for Harris?

For the Idaho team it is growth. There is a huge opportunity for growing the business here. It can be a great challenge trying to manage and keep up with the growth.

What are you passionate about at work? What inspires you or motivates you?

I am a little competitive. I like to win, because of the competitiveness I am highly motivated to succeed.

What traits do you think are important for someone in your role to be successful?

You need to be motivated and willing to put in the time that it takes to be successful.

What keeps you up at night?

Time management. How are we going to get everything accomplished?

How do you like to re-charge?

I enjoy relaxing at my cabin outside of Yellowstone.

What are you most proud of at Harris?

The Harris culture.

What is one thing Harris employees wouldn’t know about you?

I am a pilot and I love to fly my airplane.
