THE REAL HARRIS: MEET Kelly Gantverg
Tell us about your background. How did you get your start in construction/service/BAS? What drew you to the industry?
I grew up in the construction industry. I started out as a Dispatcher at Harris in Rochester after completing my degree in retail merchandise. In those 20+ years I have held several positions within Harris including, Business System, Service Manager and General Manger
What drew you to Harris? What makes you stay?
When I first started my career at Harris, the hours and the work drew me here. I stay because I love what I do. My opinions are valued and I want to finish out my career with Harris.
What do you enjoy about working at Harris?
The opportunities to advance my career and the challenges of Service and Building Automation. It’s never the same day.
What is the best part about your position?
I enjoy helping new and existing employees grow in their positions and get promotions as they open.
What are some of the main responsibilities and initiatives that you lead?
In my new role, I will be working with all Service and Controls teams on a National level. I will be working with new businesses and existing to help achieve operations excellence.
Focus is important. How do you handle external factors that affect the business? How do you prevent yourself from over or under reacting?
One step at a time, make a list and be proud of what you have accomplished. I have short-term and long-term goals that I write out and follow up on.
Looking ahead, what are some of the biggest opportunities for Harris?
We are going through many system changes in the future my challenge is to help develop and train our teams on those in a positive way.
What are you passionate about at work? What inspires you or motivates you?
I’m passionate when an opportunity is presented to help find a solution and develop a plan to help future locations.
What traits do you think are important for someone in your role to be successful?
Traits that are important are being transparent, honest, a self-starter and motivated by success.
What keeps you up at night?
I am a “noodler,” I overthink and plan for the worse and hope for the best which keeps me up at night.
How do you like to re-charge?
I recharge by spending time with my family and friends. I try to surround myself with the people that bring me joy.
What are you most proud of at Harris?
We have the best technicians in the business that find smarter and better ways to find solutions for our customers. They take great pride in their work and go above and beyond every day.
What is one thing Harris employees wouldn’t know about you?
I will not watch a horror movie.
