The Real Harris: Meet Scott Staton
Tell us about your background. How did you get your start in the construction/service/BAS business?
Shortly after college, my childhood friend reached out to me about joining his company, Southland, to work on the Pentagon renovation. At that time, I knew nothing about HVAC or plumbing and had spent a short time with a small general contractor in Virginia.
What drew you to Harris?
Harris has an impressive nationwide reputation as being a great place to work and through research I learned that it is rapidly growing. That was exciting to me! I stay because I enjoy the people I work with every day and to me, that is a blessing
What do you enjoy about working at Harris?
I work with great people, building great things in a place where everyone enjoys helping others.
What is the best part about your position?
Personally, the best part about being a GM is that I get to help people grow in their careers.
What traits do you think are important for someone in your role to be successful?
The ability to listen to what is being said and understand what is not being said.
What are your main responsibilities and initiatives that you lead?
My main responsibilities are bringing HBA into profitability and growing our team.
What are you passionate about at work?
I’m passionate about growing young people into their careers.
How do you like to re-charge?
I recharge by traveling, eating great food and playing with my daughter.
What keeps you up at night?
Every once in a while my 4-year-old loves sneaking in and waking me up.
What are you most proud of at Harris?
I’m proud that I was chosen as the leader of a great group at HBA. The enthusiasm and positivity is contagious.
What is one thing Harris employees wouldn’t know about you?
My father owned his own masonry business when I was growing up, and no I don’t know how to lay bricks.
What do you wish the public knew about Harris?
How well Harris shares expertise across the regions.
What inspires you? What motivates you?
I’m inspired by new ideas and solutions. I’m motivated to do better and be better by everyone that relies on me. My family, my team and my customers.
