The Real Harris: Meet Steven Eichler
Tell us about your background. How did you get your start in the construction/service/BAS business?
In 2011, I received an AAS in Computer Network Management from Minneapolis Business College. I have been working in IT ever since then. I have worked on various helpdesks with a variety of companies. I have supported business from fast food chains to airport mechanic shops.
What drew you to Harris? What makes you stay?
My dad has been working in the Harris Design Studio for about 25 years now. I grew up knowing the Harris name and know that they take care of their employees. As I am starting my own family, I trust that Harris will take care of me and my career.
What do you enjoy about working at Harris?
I really enjoy being able to expand my knowledge in IT. Management has made it an initiative to allow us to try new things to make us more rounded technicians. I have been able to travel to different offices, get hands on with technology I have not worked with before and have been supported in getting certified. They really allow growth in our careers.
What is the best part about your position?
I genuinely like helping people, so this job allows me to use my skills to get them back up and running to do their job.
What traits do you think are important for someone in your role to be successful?
Communication – we need to be able to articulate the steps that we need end users to take, build a rapport with people to be able to understand the issues they are facing and exude a positive customer service experience when they contact us.
What are your main responsibilities and initiatives that you lead?
I am currently in charge of the MetTel implementation with Harris. This will put us in a better position regarding our mobile infrastructure.
What are you passionate about at work?
I enjoy being the support of the business and solving difficult issues that are impeding on people’s ability to work.
How do you like to re-charge?
I like to escape into stories, whether it is in video games, books or movies. Disconnect from reality and let my mind not focus on issues pertaining to life.
What keeps you up at night?
Mostly my pregnant wife trying to get comfortable. But really, I see sleep as a means to solve issues as a tired mind cannot solve issues effectively.
What are you most proud of at Harris?
I was able to study and get recertified with my CompTia A+. Harris was very supportive on getting this completed.
What is one thing Harris employees wouldn’t know about you?
I was in bowling leagues when I was growing up. My peak average was 192 a game with a high score of 269.
What drew you to this industry?
Harris as a company drew me in. I believe that it is an amazing company to work for with a growing family.
What do you wish the public knew about Harris?
Harris really encourages growth and provides opportunity for those who are willing to take a step forward.
What inspires you? What motivates you?
Being the best that I can be at everything that I do. If I am not giving it my best, then I am not showing who I truly am.
