Minneapolis Marriott Hotel Pool Energy Recovery Project
Harris was selected by Sage Hospitality to replace the existing swimming pool energy recovery ventilator (ERV) within the hotel which was installed in 1988. The purpose of the ERV is to exhaust the warm, humid chlorinated air and supply fresh, dehumidified outside air to keep the pool environment comfortable for guests. Using a fixed-plate heat exchanger to move energy from one airstream to another, the ERV decreases the amount of cooling and heating needed to condition the incoming fresh air.
Harris’ solution included a custom, 5,300-cubic feet per minute ERV and a 15-ton condensing unit. The new cooling system uses a non-ozone depleting and affordable R-401A refrigerant and includes several upgrades such as a modulating stainless steel heater and modulating cooling capacity to keep indoor conditions under tight control and eliminate temperature fluctuations. To ensure the custom equipment could be installed without complication, Harris visited the site with the equipment manufacturer, which affirmed project completion in a timely and efficient manner.
