HCMC Ambulatory Outpatient Specialty Center
The Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) Ambulatory Outpatient Specialty Center was initially designed to relocate over 20 different departments associated with HCMC into one building. As the design progressed, more square footage was added to accommodate additional departments. Increased project square footage as well as more densely used space truly pushed the limits of the design and the budget. To help smooth the process, Harris worked with the design and the construction team to track the budget from schematic design through the construction documents.
This 393,100-square foot clinic has many diverse spaces including linear accelerators in the basement, new MRI rooms, operating rooms, a dental clinic and central processing on the sixth floor. In addition to these patient and administrative spaces, Harris worked on the center’s two levels of underground parking totaling 133,300 square feet, a seventh-floor mechanical penthouse, skyway and tunnel. The building is heated and cooled by the Hennepin County Energy Center.
