Minnesota State Capitol Restoration
In June 2013, Harris was selected to provide the demolition and replacement of all existing plumbing, HVAC piping and sheet metal and temperature control systems for the restoration of the more than 100-year-old historic Minnesota State Capitol building.
After 100+ years of service, the Capitol building had reached a critical deterioration point with a crumbling exterior, antiquated mechanical and electrical infrastructure, and inadequate life safety systems.
The project team worked hard to overcome the challenges associated with the installation of current state-of-the-art mechanical systems within the confines of the existing building structure. Scheduling, design and partial occupancy during construction were crucial considerations along with the protection of historically significant art and architecture.
Harris along with its trade partner JE Dunn Construction were able to successfully provide temporary heating and ventilation for the Minnesota House of Representatives’ March 8, 2016 legislative session required by law to be held in the House Chambers.
