Xcel Prairie Island Administration Building
Xcel Energy needed a new administration building near the site of its Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant. The building was designed to house more than 300 employees and save Xcel money on energy costs. Harris completed the HVAC, plumbing, piping and temperature controls for the new building.
As part of the contract, Harris installed a 100-foot long snowmelt system for the roof of the 79,930-square foot facility.
Working near a nuclear plant meant Harris employees needed to pass tight security to get in and out of the administration building site. Harris worked hard during the preplanning stage to certify its employees and have protocol in place for speeding up the delivery and transfer of materials. Schedule was of the utmost importance to the client and Harris’ work preplanning kept the work streamlined and helped them meet the expedited completion date.
