Central Arizona Project (CAP) Chiller Project
Harris, in coordination with the Central Arizona Project (CAP), replaced the existing water-cooled chillers with air-cooled chillers at the Brady, Picacho and Red Rock Pumping Plants on the CAP Aqueduct.
Harris operated in a prime contracting role and self-performed the mechanical scope. This project included the removal of the existing chillers, installation of new chillers, replacement of piping and specialties, and HVAC renovations. Subcontracts were let for electrical power wiring to serve the new equipment, temperature controls, insulation, excavation, third-party start-up support and poured-in-place concrete for the new air-cooled chillers that were installed adjacent to each pump house.
The Central Arizona Water Conservation District required Harris to closely coordinate all construction activities at each site, ensuring services remained uninterrupted during construction. In addition, Harris had to comply with strict security measures required by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Central Arizona Water Conservation District. The project was completed on schedule in March 2009.
