DataBank’s Granite Point SLC2 Data Center
DataBank’s Granite Point SLC2 data center is strategically located in Bluffdale, UT, minutes from downtown Salt Lake City. With a carrier-neutral design, the facility offers network connectivity to multiple Tier 1 and Tier 2 providers. The facility has access to more than 8MW of high-density power, and redundant cooling systems maintain optimal temperatures for data center equipment.
Harris installed 11 owner provided CRAH units in SLC2. The Data Hall was to remain operational throughout the duration of the project, creating a challenge for Harris. We needed to braze 9,500 feet of pipe under the data room floor while the existing equipment stayed operational. We had to create a way to “shield” the pipe while we were brazing but not obstruct the air flow so the servers that were running would stay cool.
Harris created multiple solutions throughout the projects to avoid shutdowns that were originally being discussed. We were able to perform the install without any shutdowns which left the system operational for our client. SLC2 was also a very fast-paced project with a lot of piping to be installed in a short amount of time. By using BIM and by pre-planning our piping routes and pipe racking, Harris’ work had low impact to the facility and the project was completed on time.
