La Clinica Expansion
Harris was hired as the mechanical contractor to renovate an historic building located in downtown Vallejo for the La Clinica project. The exterior of the building was preserved while the interior was demolished. The facility serves as a dental clinic for the community.
Harris’ scope was plumbing only on this project which included the domestic waters, sanitary, storm drainage (including subsurface drainage within the building) and medical gases. At the dental chairs, our utilities were within the recessed slab, so the piping was concealed which allowed for more room for dental equipment. The basement level was located below grade and we had various utilities running on this floor. The design included a sump pump to service these utilities. The project did not have a true explanation or expectation for coordination. Our team, along with the general contractor, decided to implement clash coordination during the preconstruction phase. Harris took the lead on this process and ensured all trade partners were clash free prior to construction.
A challenge during construction was the structural changes to the exterior walls. Harris worked with the design team to reroute our UG piping to allow for the additional concrete supports. The UG piping could still serve the necessary utilities and the structural supports were able to be installed.
