Owatonna Energy Station

Harris performed the complete mechanical installation for Southern Minnesota Municipal Power’s 38.8 MW natural gas-fired power plant in Owatonna, MN. The plant was designed to replace the power generating capacity the city lost during a flood in 2010. The plant consists of four new Caterpillar 10 MW gas-fired generators as well as related piping and equipment.

Harris installed the engine support piping which included air piping, lube oil piping, natural gas piping, used oil piping, glycol piping and cooled water piping from the exterior radiators to the engines. Harris also installed 52-inch engine exhaust piping and 28-inch combustion air piping, radiators, air-compressor systems, combined modules, gas modules, storage tanks, oxidation catalysts, supply fans and silencers. Throughout, Harris was involved with the installation of the owner-furnished instrumentation. At the project’s end, Harris provided pipe cleaning and flushing as required.
