Veterans Affairs Medical Center Las Vegas
The new six-story, 790,000-square foot Veterans Affairs Medical Center represents the largest construction contract ever awarded by the United States Department of Veteran Affairs. The hospital provides complete medical services, including ambulatory care, radiology, laboratories, pharmacy, diagnostic and treatment clinics, and educational facilities.
Harris fabricated and installed 1,900,000 pounds of ductwork for Phase IV of the $364.9 million hospital project. Partially staffed on-site, Harris’ BIM team met weekly to coordinate with other trades for interference, using the project model as a reference. The success of these meetings allowed Harris to manufacture and store most of the ductwork, keeping this enormously challenging project on schedule. Staging the equipment and ductwork ahead of time allowed Harris to install the rooftop and mechanical areas at an unprecedented rate of 44 pounds per hour.
