The Real Harris: Meet Gordie Beaman

Tell us about your background. How did you get your start in the construction/service/BAS business?

My career in the construction industry began when I was in high school. I always had a knack for buildings and the construction process.

What drew you to Harris?

I wanted to see what it was like working for a bigger outfitter, doing larger scale jobs. The biggest reason for staying at Harris are the friendships I’ve built over the years with my fellow field coworkers. The camaraderie between the crews makes for an enjoyable work environment.

What do you enjoy about working at Harris?

I find joy in the larger specialty projects we tend to do. These include stadiums, large hospital work, lab, etc. Harris brings a lot more variety to our jobs, which I enjoy.

What is the best part about your position?

In my position, I enjoy the pre-planning that goes into the start of a new project.

What traits do you think are important for someone in your role to be successful?

I think you need to be well rounded, smart both mentally and physically, motivated, and possess the ability to communicate well with others.

What are your main responsibilities and initiatives that you lead?

The list seems endless at times…but my main responsibility involves staying ahead of the crews with the information and materials needed to complete the job.

What are you passionate about at work?

Pre Fab, Pre Fab, Pre Fab!

How do you like to re-charge?

I love to spend time in the outdoors. Outside of hunting and fishing, I love being at home spending as much time with my wife and kids as possible.

What keeps you up at night?

Turning water on to a job.

What are you most proud of at Harris?

At Harris, I find pride in being part of a team that prides themselves on turning over a superior product at the end of every job.

What is one thing Harris employees wouldn’t know about you?

After graduating high school, I was originally planning to pack up all my stuff and move down to Arizona to attend a custom motorcycle building school.

What drew you to this industry?

I enjoy working with my hands and building all sorts of things! In addition, the typical 9-5 desk job is not my style.
