Direct Digital Control becomes “a Harris Company!”

(Sioux Falls, SD) – On December 1st, 2025, South Dakota HVAC Building Automation provider, Direct Digital Control, will become “a Harris Company,” as they begin a partnership with Harris, headquartered in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Direct Digital Control boasts a staff of professionals who have been designing, customizing and managing facility management systems tailored to the needs of their clients since they began operations in 1994. While they are headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Direct Digital Control also has a branch office in Fargo, North Dakota to help them expand their services into a large portion of the upper Midwest.

Direct Digital Control believes in the power of choice. To that end, the systems they design for their customers are open architecture environments that put the end user in the driver’s seat, enabling not just better oversight and organization of their building’s systems, but also total control over user access and the ability to select their ideal contractor from a competitive market.

When CEO and owner, Kasey Abbott, realized the time had come to consider finding a partner to enhance the offerings, security and capabilities of his business, he investigated Harris as a possible contender because it was a name he was already familiar with. How? Well, Kasey spent time working at Honeywell’s Edina branch in the 1980s, headed by a man named Paul Thorton who would later become one of Harris’ Presidents. While Harris in the late 80s didn’t have a foothold in the building automation space, they did have a reputation for exceptional customer service and dedication to high quality products, as well as a vibrant and positive company culture.

Although Kasey left the Twin Cities for South Dakota sometime later, his contacts in the area kept him aware of goings on, which is why he knew Harris had entered the building automation space well before he started to consider partnerships. His investigation into the Harris of 2025 as compared to the Harris of the late 1980s proved fruitful. Both companies retain a commitment to growth opportunities and spectacular care provided to their team members. Both companies believe in the power of authenticity, integrity and accountability, among other values.

“In short, they lived up to the hype,” says Kasey about his decision to have Direct Digital Control become a part of the wider Harris network. “Really, the only thing that’s going to change is the fact that we’re about to have much more powerful technical resources to call on to better serve our customers. The team people are used to isn’t changing, and I’m not going anywhere.”

“There’s so much happening in the upper Midwest,” says Bob Swanger, Executive Vice President of Service + Building Automation at Harris. “The people in these regions care about who’s working in their walls. They want to know they’re being taken care of not just with the best equipment, but by the best people. People they can trust, who take the extra time to build real, meaningful relationships with them. Kasey and his team are that kind of company, which is why they have the reputation that they do. We’re bringing opportunity, experience and a sense of “what’s next” to places we know are going to dive in with both feet. It’s really exciting.”

Direct Digital Control’s logo will reflect “a Harris Company” language, as will their website. Apart from that, while customers and vendors may notice the appearance of Harris “H” branded trucks on their roads, they will continue to work with the same teams of professionals they have come to rely on over the years.
