Harris Congratulates Director Greg Pumper on his Retirement
(ST. PAUL, Minn.) – Harris congratulates Greg Pumper, director, on his retirement after 38 combined years of leading field operations for HiMEC, Inc., and Harris’ Rochester, Minn., regional office.
Starting as a pipefitter apprentice in 1983 at HiMEC, Pumper has built a successful career in construction. Trained and certified in service and piping installation, he moved up to foreman, then director of field operations in 2003. For 20 years, until his move to the office, Pumper was with Rochester’s LOCAL #6 Plumbers & Pipefitters, which provides training and career advancement for members and apprentices. He then spent 17 additional years on the chapter’s apprenticeship training committee as a contractor’s representative.
When Harris acquired Rochester-based HiMEC in 2005, Pumper continued directing field operations for the region, wearing multiple hats as he managed schedules, budgets, HVAC, value engineering, and contractors. A work highlight for Pumper has been being a part of the longstanding relationship Harris has had with St. Olaf College, where in some capacity, he has worked with the college all 38 years.
Greg will be missed by customers, the field and the office, says Harris’ Chad Bestor, LEED AP, general manager, Construction.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Greg for 24 years. His extensive field knowledge served him well as he ran operations – he accepts a challenge and makes things happen,” Bestor said. “Greg was always willing to lend a hand, teach someone something new and provide honest criticism when needed. I believe with Greg, this isn’t goodbye, but rather, see you soon.”
Jon Ewing, LEED AP, Harris’ vice president + general manager, echoes Bestor’s sentiments. “One thing you could always count on with Greg was no matter who was in the room, he would tell you how he felt. He knew the business. People listened and respected his knowledge,” says Ewing. “Customers valued Greg for his honesty and true perspective; they trusted his solutions. Greg will be missed, not only for his humor but for the knowledge he had in our industry.”
Pumper looks forward to traveling with his wife, Geri, and spending time at their lake home on the Whitefish Chain with family and friends.
