Harris Wins Two ENR Southwest Project Awards
(ST. PAUL, Minn.) – Leading mechanical contractor, Harris, is proud to announce it was part of the team constructing the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Phoenix Outpatient Clinic, winner of two ENR Southwest Awards: Best Health Care Project and Award of Merit for Excellence in Sustainability.
General contractor Jacobsen Construction Company partnered with architecture firm Hoefer Welker to design and build the clinic on behalf of project owner U.S. Federal Properties Company, which is leasing the building to the VA.
Harris provided Design-Assist services, which included design input and VDC coordination of HVAC wet and dry systems, the kitchen exhaust and plumbing systems. For its mechanical and plumbing scope, Harris provided the installation of the two air cooled chillers, hot water terminal heating, the kitchen exhaust system, plumbing sanitary sewer system, storm water, natural gas and domestic water systems.
Harris also installed lighting controls and incorporated a solar hot water heating system, which included large solar tubing on the clinic roof to introduce solar-heated water into the process plumbing system for an environmentally friendly building that meets the Two Green Globes sustainability certification.
ENR Southwest’s 2022 Best Projects competition included 12 Best Projects winners and 9 Awards of Merit across 13 different categories. For the Excellence in Sustainability award, the VA project was one of two winners chosen.
