The Real Harris: Meet Tim Baird

Tell us about your background. How did you get your start in the construction/service/BAS business?

I acquired hands-on experience in the HVAC industry early on, helping at my dad’s residential shop during school breaks and summers.

What drew you to Harris? What makes you stay?

I find fulfillment, challenge and a positive work culture at Harris, keeping me engaged and committed.

What do you enjoy about working at Harris (what about the company itself made you want to work here)?

I enjoy the aspects such as a collaborative work environment, challenging projects, supportive colleagues and a strong sense of purpose in the work I do at Harris.

What is the best part about your position (the day-to-day, people, a special project you were involved with)?

The best part of my position is the hands-on nature of work, the opportunity to contribute to tangible outcomes and the satisfaction of seeing projects come to life through skilled craftmanship.

What traits do you think are important for someone in your role to be successful?

I think having attention to detail, precision in craftsmanship, adaptability to different projects, physical stamina, problem-solving skills and effective communication for collaborating with team members and understanding project specifications are key traits.

What are your main responsibilities and initiatives that you lead?

My primary responsibilities include installing HVAC related components in a timely manner, interpreting blueprints, ensuring accuracy from BIM to field drawings, collaborating with team members and maintaining a strong emphasis on safety. In terms of Initiatives, implementing quality control, efficiency in field installations and training or mentoring coworkers within my field.

What are you passionate about at work?

At work I’m passionate about fostering a collaborative and efficient team dynamic, contributing to innovation and building strong relationships with contractors and across departments at Harris.

How do you like to re-charge?

Outside of work, I like to recharge by spending time with family and friends, indulging in activities like cycling, running, skiing, working out, getting outdoors, reading, woodworking and constantly learning new things. Exploring new destinations is probably my favorite escape.

What keeps you up at night?

Work projects, upcoming challenges, personal goals and caffeine regularly keep my mind spinning at night.

What are you most proud of at Harris?

Innovation and loyalty.

What is one thing Harris employees wouldn’t know about you?

I’m a co-owner of a biodegradable tableware business with manufacturing operations in India.

What drew you to this industry?

The satisfaction of seeing my craftsmanship come to life and the dynamic and hands-on nature of the field.
